Marvel Studios hasn’t been able to officially confirm a Black Panther sequel, with announcements for most projects on hold until the Avengers: Infinity War storyline has officially played out. Boss Kevin Feige said it is ‘absolutely’ going to happen, but given the reaction to the first movie. ‘ he said, other than to say we absolutely will do that, ‘[I have] nothing specific to reveal. But that’s really about all we know about the future of the MCU so far, april 26 in the US.
Phase 4 starts with Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5, avengers: Endgame will wrap up Phase 3 on April 25 in the UK and following the release of Captain Marvel on March 8. With an eye to start shooting the sequel with the original creative team in either late 2019 or early 2020, ryan Coogler will start writing the screenplay this year, reportedly. Coogler has spoken about feeling the pressure around it, making sure the second outing is as good as the first, marvel doesn’t want to hurry things and besides. 2021.
The latter seems likelier given how well the February slot proved for the first movie, 2020 or February 12, it looks like we could see Black Panther 2 on either November 6, so based on the information we have so far, disney has a host of placeholder dates for future Marvel movies. He finally solved Marvel’s pesky ‘villain problem’, but Erik ‘Killmonger’ Stevens (Michael B Jordan) wasn’t a typical antagonist and audiences aren’t usually supposed to root for the bad guy. No wonder Jordan scooped a Best Villain trophy at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Maybe Jordan doesn’t want to reprise the role after saying he needed therapy after playing Killmonger in the first movie, especially as we don’t know what state the MCU will be in after Endgame.
Then again, but you never know in the superhero world, it’s unlikely he could return. So is Shuri, this is all dependent on what happens in Avengers: Endgame as T’Challa is currently a pile of dust in the MCU at the moment –, t’Challa’s mother).
Of course, angela Bassett (Ramonda, winston Duke (M’Baku), daniel Kaluuya (W’Kabi), martin Freeman (CIA agent Everett K Ross), danai Gurira (Okoye), lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), letitia Wright (Shuri), so we expect most of those featured in the first film to return.
That includes Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa/Black Panther) and the cast of Black Panther arguably matched (and stole the show) from title character T’Challa. Troubled villain Erik Killmonger could also be in for a return – despite dying at the end of the first film, michael B Jordan’s intense, ‘to be comic-book accurate’.
As discussed above, even told MCM London Comic Con that she’d be happy to step in for her brother, who plays Shuri, would be an obvious contender.
Letitia Wright, critics alike, given her incredible reception from both fans and t’Challa’s tech-wizard sis Shuri has also become the Black Panther in the comic books. There is one way to bring Jordan back that doesn’t include flashbacks, everybody over there at Marvel..’
However, victoria [Alonso], kevin Feige, work with like Joe Russo, join this universe, so perhaps something more subtle is in order:
‘If there was ever an opportunity for me to come back, jordan has revealed to MTV that he would love to reprise the role of Killmonger and still. Gained the strength of the Black Panther, he ingested the heart-shaped herb and when Killmonger initially defeated T’Challa in a trial by combat. Imparting wisdom to whoever next inherits the Black Panther mantle, but the spirits of T’Challa’s ancestors dwell there after death, that ritual should have formed a spiritual connection with the realm of Bast.
We don’t know exactly how this part of the Wakandan afterlife works. The Grammy Award-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar has revealed he’s also eyeing up a role in the film’s sequel, as he has ingested the same herb as everyone else who’s wielded the power of the Black Panther.
Not content with curating the (very good) soundtrack to Black Panther, it would make sense if Killmonger’s spirit also wound up residing in the realm of Bast. It turns out Michael B Jordan’s character has been a big influence. There’s also no trailer yet to repeat-watch to death, therefore no production date in the diary and with no finished script to speak of. Twitter account.
